Toole IS all alone, a feeling
often felt by the City-League champion Brothers.
In spite of fierce competition in the Central New York
area and across the state, C B A ’s Road Runners qualified
for intersectional competition and The State Federation
meet in New York city. Under the direction of Coach
Knowiton Foote, the Cross Country team was able to
maintain a state ranking throughout the season.
Leading the squad were senior, Jeff Jurick and junior,
Chris Shepherdson. Both runners added a spark to the
team’s competitive spirit as they vied with each other for
the privilege of coming into the chute first. Additional sup
port came from Paul Kelly, Steve Hays, junior George
Luke and the McMahon cousins.
The talent of the group was demonstrated by several
impressive performances. The Brothers first Cross-Coun
try victory in 3 years was garnered at the Chenango
season was paralleled by the team’s first place finish in
the CNYCL Championship meet at LeMoyne College.
What heightened the team’s sense of accomplishment
was the fact that the last time a Cross Country Champion
ship was brought home to Randall Road was in 1979.
Sectional Competition saw the Brothers take first place
“ B ” Crown and finish sixth of eleven intersectional teams
competing in the B level NYSPHAA Championship Compe
tition. The close of the successful season saw the squad
travel to New York’s Van Cortlandt Park to compete in the
NYS Federation Meet. Running against the best teams in
the state, the Brothers placed eighteenth. Their final state
ranking was a highly respectable seventeenth.
Hopes for continued success could be placed on solid
performances by Juniors, Cathal O’Connor, Lou Ska-
Valley Invitational in September. The dramatic start to the
