How to Choose a Holster
In this section, we will discuss important things to consider when choosing a holster, an overview of concealment options available and popular holsters for men and women.
Things to Consider
With thousands of holsters to choose from and every person you know recommending something different, how do you choose? Here are a few things to consider. First, the holster should be specifically made for your firearm. This ensures that the firearm won’t fly across the room during a fight. Second, we want some type of positive retention. This could mean the holster has a thumb strap, a button that must be pressed or require a good solid pull to remove the firearm. The next item to consider is how the holster will affect printing. Are people going to notice that you have something sticking out of your shirt? Is the holster comfortable? Can you quickly access the firearm and draw the weapon smoothly?
What type of material would be best for your style, comfort and concealment method? Holsters are available in nylon, raw leather, finished leather, kydex or polymer blend. Let's discuss each type and the pros and cons of each. Nylon holsters are very cheap, at $15 to $20. However, they will not last very long, so it's kind of a waste of money. Raw leather is great. It’s relatively cheap at $30, and it will last forever. The downside is that they do not have positive retention. If you’re looking to drive women crazy, then a polished leather holster is for you. These holsters are awesome. However, they are very thick and usually for people who want to open carry their firearm. These
