         Farmington Valley Chorus (continued)

Well…. he was kind of right but there was something different about this. I could tell the cordiality of all
the women at this “place of worship for barbershoppers.” There was no animosity or ill will. It was just
filled with women who loved music and who loved to sing. Yes, there were definitely moments of women
just breaking out in song, but what is crime in that? Isn’t that the point in loving music and singing? When
our chorus finally went on stage to perform our hearts out, I didn’t feel nervous or anxious. I felt the love of
the music and I think that is what made the difference.

Contest is so much fun but Farmington Valley knows how to bring some more fun out-

We participated in International’s Micro Contests. Our video to “Catcha Wave” from the Beach Boys was
hysterical. Thanks HOTS for the inspiration. Our essay about how we get people to stay in Sweet Adelines
and be a family was submitted complete with a goofy photo. Though we didn’t win, it was fun participating.

Speaking of staying - here is a picture of our longevity members. They range in years from 1 to 30. We even
sang in two new members last month– Tootsie as lead and Kirsten as baritone. They are in for a fun year.

A bunch of us sang for the Sisters of Mercy in March. This performance was postponed twice from before
Christmas for weather and COVID protocols. So just for the fun of it we threw some Christmas carols into
the mix. The nuns were so appreciative and a lot of them sang along. They were curious about us and asked
some great questions when we were finished. We hope to be invited back soon.

We definitely put the FUN in fundraising this year. We sponsored another sold out Bunco Night that was
even more successful than the previous years. We’re still trying to find out who belongs to a card table or
two and where the cooler of beer went. A bunch of us went to a Wolf Pack game in Hartford where each
seat sold through us got us some cash back. Cool – money for nothing and your drinks for free.
We are so excited for all the fun the next year holds. Congratulations to all the chorus’ and quartets that
competed. You did it!! Wahoo!!! Let’s do it again next year. We hope to see you all at the 4 Part Frenzy in
July. That sounds like a blast.
