Royal River Chorus (continued)
Enjoying classes led by top SAI faculty members, she filled a notebook full of tips and expert advice,
returning to chorus rehearsals ready with a treasure trove with fresh ideas and new ways forward. One
path we take with performances involves bringing joy to our community. A special performance in July
really fit the bill when we entertained a group of bicyclists from Fuller Center for Housing. This nonprofit
initiative pairs up with agencies and volunteers across the country to build and repair homes with partner
families. These cyclists participated in a cross-country ride, essentially from Seattle to Sebago, bringing
awareness of their work to the public and participating in seven build days at stops along their course.
President of the Sebago Lake chapter of Fuller Center for Housing, Diane Bruni, was excited to enlist our
voices and songs to help celebrate their hard work at the culmination of their journey. They were one of
our most receptive audiences in some time, and their cheers inspired us to give back even more.
Our chorus ended July with a festive party on Sebago Lake at the beautiful home of baritone Norma.
Somehow, we managed to select one of the most gloriously perfect summer days. And with our families,
water toys and food in tow, we ate, swam, played games, and just generally had a great time. As with
many of you, this was the first chance we’ve had to truly let loose with each other since the pandemic,
and it felt wonderful!
We finished out our summer entertainment by joining the Bath Concert Series. On a lovely evening in
early August, the chorus stepped onto risers set up in Bath, Maine’s, Library Park gazebo. It’s always fun
to sing for a local crowd; and we serenaded them with many old songs from our repertoire, our contest
ballad and uptune, and a couple of brand-new songs that we’re still working on.
