What I love about baking is that it brings me closer to my family and friends,
especially my three children. With their love of creating and enjoying fun food in
the kitchen, they have been the heart and soul of the Cake Mix Doctor books and
the subsequent Dinner Doctor. For them and for all the children of the world,
ages 1 to 101, here is Cupcakes from the Cake Mix Doctor.
Just say the word “cupcake,” and you’ve got to smile. To me, cupcakes
conjure up cozy, comforting, celebratory memories of parties past when I
carefully peeled back the paper liner and then put gentility aside and dove face
first into the crunchy decoration, the smooth and creamy frosting, the soft cake
—I ate them all at once. I remember some boys being able to inhale a cupcake in
one bite. I always marveled at that because it took me three or four. But now I
can appreciate the time it takes to savor a cupcake. I’m not in a hurry.
