DISCIPLINE: Citizenship in a democracy requires respect for the rights of others. The students in our school are expected to
conduct themselves in a way that the rights and privileges of others are not violated. Our school-wide character education
and discipline policy is thus in effect throughout our school – in the car rider area, cafeteria, buses, recess, related arts, and
field trips. Consistency is very important! After the first week of school, your child will know exactly what is expected at
school.
Our students are expected to conduct themselves in an acceptable manner in order that learning can take place
throughout the school day. Behavior that stops teachers from teaching or prevents any student from learning is
unacceptable. In order that our students know the types of behaviors that are acceptable, the following list is
provided. Please review these expectations with your child.
● Keep hands to one self.
● Bring only materials needed for school. Leave toys and other items that would distract you from your
schoolwork at home, (gum, candy, sharp objects, fidget spinners, matches, knives, toy guns, weapons, any
form of tobacco…)
● Staff members have the right to hold inappropriate items such as toys and hats until parents are contacted.
● Display good manners at all times.
● Fighting or disrespectful behavior is unacceptable at our school.
● Walk in the classrooms, hallways, and on sidewalks.
● Speak quietly and politely. Loud talking, yelling, whistling, or disrespectful language/attitude does not
promote a positive learning environment.
Our aim is self-disciplined students. Until this is accomplished, external control is necessary. When a student
refuses to follow school rules and cooperate with the teacher, disciplinary actions may include the following:
Classrooms Actions Administrative Actions
Verbal Warnings Student Conferences
Redirection/Re-teaching Expectations Parent Contact/Conferences
Notes Home Guidance Referral
Loss of Privileges Loss of Privileges
Time Out Suspension
Parent Contact/Conferences Expulsion
Guidance Referrals
Office Referrals
In case of office referrals, the teacher submits a written report of the student’s misconduct to the principal. Parents
will receive a disciplinary letter sent home with the student.
