Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM)
New Wave of Physician and Caregiver While not a new technology, RPM will enable providers to monitor patients
in a way to slow or prevent disease progression or manage chronic
Entrepreneurs conditions more effectively, with the goal of prevention and slowing of
episodic events. With a CMS ruling passed March 1, 2020, providers can
now get reimbursed for the following RPM:
• Physiologic parameter(s) (e.g., weight, blood pressure, pulse oximetry,
respiratory flow rate), including patient set-up, education, management,
and interpretation of the data
• Device(s) supply with daily recording(s) or programmed alert(s)
transmission
Telepharmacy
Pharmacists are in a highly visible and patient-accessible role and
should be integrated into telehealth solutions. It is estimated that over
125,000 patients die each year due to medication non-adherence. This
non-adherence – not taking a medication correctly, or simply not taking
it at all – has led to healthcare costs approaching $105 billion. With the 90%
rise in telemedicine, we’ll see pharmacists play a more active role in
the care management team.* Technology has provided the gateway for
telemedicine’s global acceptance and multiple technological avenues for Of patients engaged in telemonitoring
patients and for providers to deliver care. Once a threat to providers’ bottom service had controlled blood pressure
line, there’s no stopping the telemedicine momentum as payers reimburse at six- and 12-month intervals.*
for virtual care and consumerism prevails.
