• SJHC also sees a large volume of Pediatric Psychiatry cases
(193 cases in 16/17 and approximately 8% growth over the last 3
years) for primarily Depressive Episodes, Stress/Reaction and
Adjustment Disorders, and Childhood/Adolescent
Developmental Disorders. These are captured in the DAD.
• SJHC and SMH see the same top 5 mental health diagnoses, primarily Schizophrenia Spectrum and
other Psychotic Disorders, Bipolar Disorders, and Depressive Disorders.
• Primary diagnoses are similar across assessment types at both hospitals while SJHC sees larger
volumes of both visit types.
• While volumes and SCIPP weighted patients days are higher at SJHC, SMH has a somewhat
higher average SCIPP CMI (1.765 at SJHC vs 1.873 at SMH for non-short stay visits in FY 1617).
