Top 5 Case Mix Groups
• Inpatient activity from DAD and outpatient activity in NACRS is presented by
the top 5 Case Mix Groups for each hospital
– Inpatients: HBAM Inpatient Grouper (HIG)
– Outpatients: Comprehensive Ambulatory Classification System (CACS)
• Trends in case mix groups use regrouped data (2016/17 methodology for all
years shown)
• All activity not falling into one of the top 5 case mix groups for each hospital will
fall into an ‘Other’ category—services with large ‘Other’ categories have activity
represented by a large number of case mix groups
• Statistics shown are for fiscal year 2016/17 unless specified otherwise
