1. Current affiliation agreements and physician appointments with the University of Toronto must
be maintained at each site
2. Current financial arrangements for medical staff must be respected
3. Ensure there is a common standard for quality (i.e. harmonization of policies, practice
guidelines, medical directives and credentials process and standards over a transition period).
4. The medical staff model will facilitate future opportunities for integration
5. Maintain support of the medical staff during the planning and integration process
6. The medical staff model will not lessen the engagement of medical staff in hospital processes
LEGAL REQUIREMENTS
There are key legal requirements that impact the structure of the Medical Advisory Committee, Medical
Staff Association, and representation on the integrated board of the hospitals and Quality Committee of
the board. Key legal requirements, as per the Public Hospitals Act, are included below.

MEDICAL STAFF MODEL
The medical staff model for the integrated organization includes the following key elements:
Privileges and Department Structure:
Maintain site-specific privileges and departments each with a site Chief of Department

Medical Advisory Committee (MAC) Structure
Two MAC Sub-Committees to perform MAC functions; one in respect of St. Joseph’s site
privileged staff and one in respect to St. Michael’s/Providence site privileged staff
Physicians that have site-specific privileges at Providence or have Providence as their main
campus would be constituted as a department and such department would have representation
on the St. Michael’s/Providence MAC Sub-Committee through the Chief of Department of the
Providence site.
