To estimate one-time costs for establishing an integrated IT infrastructure, the following key principles
were established:
Assume a three-year period for implementing structural changes and systems integration.
Leverage existing IT assets where possible, and as a priority address gaps in solutions across all three
sites.
Finance systems will be consolidated into one solution.
Analytics and business intelligence will be addressed concurrently with financials.
Human resources will be considered as a distinct requirement from financials.
To allow for collaboration across the three organizations, IT enablers will be designed to support
secure exchange of patient records across all three sites.
There are estimated one-time costs to consolidate financial and reporting tools, enable infrastructure
such as web and telephony, plus establish a patient health record at Providence and build patient
information bridges across all sites.
Longer term (i.e. three to five years), the network will go to market for a comprehensive health
information system solution based on a business case and once the functional and business needs of the
new entity are understood.
4.3 HUMAN RESOURCES
Providence, St. Joseph’s and St. Michael’s are committed to bringing our organizations together in a way
that will develop and engage our people. The new network will enhance opportunities for staff and
volunteers overall, and we will maintain stability throughout the integration process.
The following principles will guide the organizations throughout the course of the integration process:
Ensure transparent and consistent communication with staff across all three organizations
through all stages of the integration process.
Ensure continued commitment to high-quality and safe patient care among all staff, physicians,
volunteers and students.
Fair and respectful treatment of all staff, physicians, volunteers and students at all three
organizations.
Retain and continue to develop talent at all three organizations.
