Once the integrated network has been formally approved, the new board will oversee implementing a
new governance process for the organization. Reporting structures and governance processes at each of
the three hospitals remain in place until formal amalgamation is approved. Each hospital boards’
governance responsibilities remain until the time that formal amalgamation occurs.
4.6 FOUNDATIONS
The participation of representatives from all three organizations’ foundations on the Joint Board
Steering Committee was helpful for them to better understand how the proposed integration will
advance care through this important partnership. Each of the organizations have well-established
foundations that raise much-needed charitable donations for equipment, education, research and
capital development to support each hospital’s strategic plan in order to improve patient care.
It is intended that initially the [three] foundations will continue to operate independently. Foundations
in other health centre integrations have maintained their separate entities status. Following the
integration, the separate boards of the three Foundations, will work together and with the new board of
the integrated entity to determine how best to continue to support the needs of each associated
hospital so appropriate local community donor stewardship is maintained, and individual fundraising
priorities are met for all constituencies served.
4.7 RISK MANAGEMENT ASSESSMENT
All three organizations through each of its working groups have begun to identify key issues and risks
the newly created health network will need to address following its formal integration. Risks that may
arise during the transition period as well as mitigation strategies are outlined in the table below:
