Plan For The

        Unexpected

f COVID has taught us anything, it is that life comes with no guarantees
and we have no idea what tomorrow will bring. By doing a little planning
now, you can spare significant stress at an already difficult time should
Iyou become ill, incapacitated or pass away.
An estate plan should have several key components. This includes a will, a
living will, a durable power of attorney, wishes for final arrangements, life and
health insurance. We encourage you to stop by our office and pick up a free
estate planning personalized workbook to assist you through this process.
Create or update your will. This allows you to decide what happens to
your possessions, money and guardianship of any minor children in the
event of a premature death. A living will outlines the medical steps
you would want taken if you become too ill to make those deci-
sions for yourself. A power of attorney will allow you to appoint
someone to make decisions on your behalf if you become inca-
pacitated. This also relieves your loved ones of the tremen-
dous stress of trying to decide what you would have wanted.
Life and health illness insurance can help you manage
life’s ups and downs, financially protect your loved ones in
the event of your early death and maintain your quality of
life if you develop a health problem. Your family’s finan-
cial situation doesn’t have to dramatically change because
you become ill or pass away.
Finally, to simplify matters for your family, in the event
you become incapacitated or die, I recommend a summary
of your finances and other key items. This includes law-
yer, accountant, insurance, bank and bill information.
Keep these important details in a designated area. Let
your loved ones and/or your executor know where your
         designated area is.
You can’t decide when unforeseen events, good and
bad, will strike. You can’t predict them, but you can
plan for them. Having a plan is one of the greatest gifts
you can give not only to yourself but your loved ones as
well. You work hard to build your life – a little planning
         today can help protect it.
