EMPLOYEES
Employees’ Desired Improvements
and Concerns at LTHC
As employees continue their careers at LTHC, they identified a few more housing
areas for growth that they believe would help LTHC to become an
even more beneficial resource for the Lafayette community. Con- space
sistent with employees’ overwhelming support of and passion
for the mission of LTHC, their suggestions for improvement
are focused on services for and support of guests, instead of
their own working conditions or expectations.
Due to the dramatically increasing numbers of guests, LTHC has
several areas for program growth as identified by employees. The
following five areas stand out the most: transportation
More Shelter Capacity: LTHC faces two main challenges related
to shelters if the organization intends to serve more guests in the support
future. First, LTHC wants to expand its operation by constructing
a new housing center so that its housing capacity can be increased.
Second, the lack of a segmented housing place remains a gap for
the organization to fill since there is no housing place especially for
couples and there is no emergency shelter for overflow cases.
Reliable Transportation: The lack of reliable transportation is
one of the major problems affecting people experiencing home-
lessness. Since most guests do not own vehicles, riding a public bus
becomes the only feasible method for them to get around the local
area. However, for some guests (especially those nearer the chronic
homelessness end of the continuum), navigating the CityBus map
and safely boarding the bus is an enormous challenge. Even for
the guests who do not need special assistance, they still require bus
passes in order to use the public transportation resources. Until the
transportation problem is solved, LTHC’s guests are at the risk of
road incidents, especially when they walk during the winter season.
