13. Better is Peace
El enjundioso movimiento final empieza volviendo a la música del principio, adaptándola a un texto de Thomas Mallory que expresa
un sentimiento completamente distinto: «Mejor es la paz que siempre la guerra». Luego el coro vuelve a las palabras de L’homme
armé, esta vez en forma de una fuga breve, para después cantar «Mejor es la paz» de una manera ligeramente diferente. Sigue un
interludio orquestal que conduce a las palabras del poema de Alfred Tennyson para el día de año nuevo:

Better is peace than always war, and better is peace than Siempre es mejor la paz que la guerra, eternamente es
evermore war, always war, always war, better is peace than mejor la paz que la guerra, siempre, siempre, eternamente
evermore war, and better and better is peace. es mejor la paz que la guerra, eternamente.
L’homme armé doit on douter? ¿Debe el hombre armado ser temido?

Ring happy bells across the snow. Que suenen con alegría las campanas sobre la nieve.

Ring out old shapes of foul disease. Que cesen las viejas y nauseabundas enfermedades.
Ring out the narrowing lust of gold. Que cese la avaricia por el oro.
