Jonah did not want to obey God when he was told to go to Nineveh.
He went to Joppa to find a ship sailing for Tarshish. The Lord sent
a great wind on the sea; a violent storm blew up. The captain asked,
“How can you sleep? Get up and call on your God!” Jonah told them
to throw him into the sea.
A huge fish came and swallowed Jonah; it was probably a whale. God rescued
Jonah and he was given a second chance. Jonah went to Nineveh and many
people were saved.
