HEALTHY HABITS: GOOD, CLEAN WATER
Truth to Teach (Source)
James 1:17 ‘Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father..’
Way to Work (Means)
1. Divide the children into groups to note down as many different uses of
water as they can think of.
2. Bring children together. Compile a list on the board. For which ones is it
very important that we use good, clean water?
3. Using the Lion book ‘Thank you for a drink of water’ and a suitable drawing
remind children how water happens to come to them through a tap.
Explain how all of this costs money.
Many countries cannot afford to build reservoirs, and filtering plants. Water
must be fetched from rivers and streams.
• The water in the rivers is not good clean water: Animals are
washed there, people use them as toilets, they bathe there.
Dirty water when drunk can cause cholera. Have you had
cholera? Why not?
• Women have to carry water over long distances often. It is too
precious therefore to be used for much washing. Eating food with
dirty hands can cause diseases, e.g. leprosy.
4. What can be done about this? [Those in rich nations can help by giving
money or helping build wells for clean water.]
God may call them to go and work for Him in a country such as India, not as
a teacher, or doctor, but as an engineer.
We are blessed in this country by having plenty of good clean water. The
next time you go to the tap, just remember to thank Father God, who is
really responsible for every good and perfect gift.
Learning for Life (Fulfilment)
That the children are grateful for supplies of clean water readily available
in this country.
That the children have a heart for those not so blessed.
