PREPOSITIONS AND PREPOSITIONAL PHRASES
Truth to Teach (Source)
Prepositions often indicate the direction, position or time in a sentence.
Prepositional phrases also indicate direction, position or time.
Review teaching on prepositions.
Way to Work (Means)
1. Review previous lessons.
2. Give the children five minutes to make as many words as they can from the
word preposition.
E.g. prop, pet, is, it, on, in, oppose, root, note, pit, pot, sit, set, soot, nest,
pest, position, soon, top, stop, no, not, stone, post, spoon, prone, eon, rest,
roost
3. Ask the children if they can remember any prepositions. Write prepositional
phases on the board for the children to put into sentences.
E.g. over the wall, behind the tree, before sunset, on Friday, with a stick,
after 6 pm
4. Talk about prepositions and prepositional phrases stating the direction,
position and time of events.
5. The children could attempt the worksheet or write a paragraph containing
certain given prepositions.

1. The children should be confident in identifying, and in using, prepositions and
prepositional phrases.
