Y6 Autumn Term. Writing Words (WW)

                1) My birth

                2) Early childhood
                3) My family and friends (Read excerpts from ‘My Family and Other Animals’ by
                    Gerald Durrell – page 15-17)
                4) Places special to me (Read from ‘My Family and Other Animals by Gerald
                    Durrell – chapter 15)

                5) Important people in my life (Read excerpts from ‘Pilgrim’s Progress’ by John
Bunyan to show the characteristics of different people)
                6) What I know about God (from parents’ teaching, Sunday clubs, school, books,
                    the Bible, etc)

                7) My future (Read Jeremiah 29:11)

Let the children make up their own chapter headings and sub-headings.
Give opportunities for the children to share parts of their stories to inspire others
each week. Draw attention to aspects of grammar being covered in the lessons,

e.g. active and passive verbs, using descriptive sentences, direct and reported
                speech.

            LESSON 8

            To write a letter
Share an encouraging letter received by the school or by an individual. Talk about
Paul’s letters he wrote to the churches to encourage them. Look at the greetings

and endings of the letters. Encourage the children to write an encouraging letter
to someone, perhaps someone working abroad.

Review the setting out of a letter. Show the children how to write a more formal

letter with the recipient’s address at the top.

            LESSON 9

To describe ingredients and the method used to make a cold drink

Show the children a variety of cookery books and note the layout/presentation of
recipes within them. If time allows, make a cold drink with the children, e.g. from
fresh oranges or other crushed fruits. It could be a milk-shake, a Smoothie or

something similar. Talk about creating a page for a recipe book with an
illustration, list of ingredients, the method explained, the equipment required, etc.
Let the children create their own page for a recipe book. If it is done on the
computer, the recipe could be emailed to some of the children’s friends or
                families.
