Y6 Autumn Term. Writing Words (WW)

            LESSONS 10-11

To plan and write a modern parable
Discuss the importance Jesus placed on sharing parables. Refer to a few parables
from the gospels and talk about the underlying truths which can be learnt from

them. Read a short story which teaches a lesson, eg ‘The Berenstain Bears and
the Truth’ by Stan and Jan Berenstain.

Discuss lessons which could be taught through stories, e.g. truthfulness, patience,

forgiveness, obedience, perseverance then let the children make up a short story
or parable which teaches one of these lessons. They may wish to target a certain
age group then share it with that class later. They may decide to write about
                people and/or animals.

Encourage the children to pray about their story then write a draft to discuss with
the teacher before copying the final parable.

            LESSONS 12-13

            The Christmas story
Depending on how this has been covered in past years, eg written as a play,
character portraits, as poetry or as a newspaper report, let the children study it

from different perspectives and write about it accordingly.
