"Are you family?" the Desk Attendant needles with a welcoming smile.
"No. I'm a concerned Citizen," Alonzo replies -- presenting his driver's license.
The Attendant stares at his driver’s license. "What's the patient's name,
Mr. Thomas?” glaring at her computer screen.
"Didn't catch it during the chaos," he admits." Late 20s Caucasian male."
"So, sorry. Can't be of assistance to you without additional information."
"I understand. Thank you for your time," Alonzo replies. He takes a couple of
steps back, turns around; then walks toward the main entrance. However, he's
startled midway by a soft, and somewhat familiar voice.
"Alonzo ... Is that you?" a female voice inquires.
"Yes --," replies but comes to a halt ahead of a 40's looking and cheerful lady.
"-- It's Sheila. Bryana's mom," the lady in a burgundy scrub replies.
"Oh, boy.” Alonzo extends his hand, “how are you ... How's Bryana?"
"Awesome. She's in third grade now," Sheila shakes his hand. "What a
pleasant surprise ... Bryana asked about you about a month ago, and here we are."
"What a delight. You work here?"
"Yes, in Oncology … The Graveyard Shift."
