On Thursday, December 7 our St. Francis of Assisi Chapel was filled with friends
who came together in celebration of several extraordinary patients and their
caregivers. Five former patients have graciously filmed videos detailing their
miraculous stories of hope and healing at UM St. Joseph. Their individual stories
will be shared in the coming year in a variety of print and digital media. The
first video, previewed at the celebration, detailed the experience of Jae Abate,
a survivor of H1N1, a virulent, life-threatening form of the flu. Several of her
caregivers, who nursed Jae back to health over the course of a two-month stay
at the hospital, were recognized for their exceptional commitment to loving and
compassionate care. Jae was delighted to have the opportunity to thank her
caregivers in person. A reception followed the emotional program.
