Use, Occupancy, and Construction
I-3: Facilities in which 5 or more people are under restraint or security, and are
generally incapable of self-preservation due to security measures not under the
occupants’ control.
This includes but is not limited to:
Prisons
Jails
Reformatories
Detention centers
Correctional centers
Prerelease centers
Please note: The I-3 classification includes several conditions that can be found in
Sections 308.5.1-4 through 308 5.5 of the 2014 Florida Building Code.
I-4: Facilities in which 5 or more people of any age receive custodial care for
fewer than 24 hours per day by persons other than their parents, guardians, or
relatives, and not within the person’s own home.
This includes but is not limited to:
Adult day care
Child day care
