Blister Pack In spection
Sapphire offers a range of blister applications for tablets, gelcaps and capsules. Detectable
conditions include missing or partial/underweight tablets – such as broken or ‘capped’
products – underfill capsules including ‘maracas’.

The programme will measure mass for correct dosage, check if the seal of the blister pack
is intact and that the patient leaflet is enclosed, as well as detection of foreign bodies in
the pack.

Drug Delivery Device Inspection
Mechanical analysis checks, on both osmotic and conventional insulin pumps, uses high
resolution imaging to provide over 30 component checks to ensure the correct assembly
of the device.

Air Bubble Detection

Air bubbles in liquids are a big concern in the pharmaceutical industry, especially where
they interrupt the product flow such as in osmotic pumps.
Sapphire has developed a cutting edge visual inspection for detecting bubbles in viscous
liquid, even when housed in metallic tubes.

Mass Measurement
Sapphire’s systems can measure the dose level of powdered drugs to a repeatability of
<0.1mg in dose carriers, including powder inhaler devices, peelable strips, ring carries
and dosing from pellets.

Mass measurement is a standard feature with our G180 systems.
Specialist systems such as the P2plus and P4 have been developed to measure powder
filled pockets of disc inhalers. The P2plus and P4 are available as standalone machines or
can be integrated into a wider packaging and inspection machine.

The G182 x-ray systems operate at very low energy to
measure and inspect for bubbles in liquids as well as
provide mechanical assembly and contaminant checks.

The G182 is a variant of the G180 line of active pixel area sensor inspection systems
from Sapphire.
The customization includes both product handling and software interface changes
to meet the individual specifications of the customer.
