For the third straight year, the Middle School Jazz Band won a DownBeat Award in the category of Outstanding Performance for
a Junior High School Large Jazz Ensemble. Established in 1976, the DownBeat Student Music Awards are considered the most prestigious awards in jazz education.
Nine students earned Florida Music Education Association’s (FMEA) All-State recognition, ranking them as some of the top musicians in the state. Representing Middle School on the all-state roster were Kaveen Chainani ‘26 (Mixed Chorus), Gabriela Celic ‘26 (Treble Chorus), Ashley
Garcia ‘25 (Treble Chorus), Isabella Giraldez
‘25 (Treble Chorus), Siena McKelvey ‘25 (Treble Chorus), Enzo Paesano ‘25 (Orchestra), and Julia Witherspoon ‘25 (Treble Chorus). At the Upper School, Sebastian Fernandez ‘22 (Tenor 1, Mixed Chorus) and Salomon Bibas ‘23 (Bass 2, Tenor/ Bass Chorus) earned spots on the roster.
Middle School Chorus members’ solo and duet pieces received 12 Superior and seven Excellent ratings at various competitions throughout
the year.
The Middle School’s Drama Troupe 88015 participated in the Junior Thespian Virtual Festival, receiving 15 Superior and 12 Excellent ratings, and qualifying all their events for state competition.
The Upper School’s Drama Troupe 2450 competed in the Thespian Florida Regional Virtual Festival. Their production of The Laramie Project notched a Superior score and
qualified for the state festival, while eight students earned top honors in their respective categories. Eighteen performers earned Superior ratings and 19 students notched an Excellent score.
Middle and Upper School students participated in the Florida State Thespians Virtual Festival. Middle School students received seven Superior and five Excellent ratings, and all their events received top scores. In the Upper School competition, 12 students recorded 14 Superior ratings and 17 students earned Excellent ratings.
