In Myanmar, there are 135 different ethnic groups. Depends on different ethnic groups, traditional
cuisines are different according to it. Burma is the most dominant group but other ethnic groups, including
Rakhine (also called Arakan) people have distinct cuisines. Rakhine people are living along the coastal
region of Myanmar. That is why their most traditional cuisines are based on Seafood. I am Rakhine Ethnic
and I come from Island.
My native town Kyauk Phyu is located in Ramree Island (The Biggest Island in Myanmar) and we used to
cook seafood every day.
Rakhin Traditional Fish Soup
When I come to AIT, I miss my traditional dishes. I used to go Tala Thai market near AIT every weekend,

of Myanmar and mostly their cuisines are based on Seafood. Zin belongs to Rakhine Ethnicity and
her native town is Kyauk Phyu in Ramree Island (The Biggest Island in Myanmar). This homemade
fish soup is one of her and her foreigner friends’ favourite.
Serving size: 4-5 persons
Process
The fish soup is one of my favorite and my foreigner friends also like it.
Ingredients
1. Wash the fish, cut into pieces. Clean and wash the pieces
1. Barramundi Fish (Fresh fish) ½ kg of fish

powder for 10 minutes.

Note: If you don’t use green mango (or tamarind)
for the soup, it’s required to squeeze one lemon into the
soup while you are ready to have meal.
