Carnmoggas Short Mat Bowling Club when the eight qualifiers from
an earlier round played off for the title in a knockout competition.
In the Quarter Finals Jenny Richards, Mark Albon (Luxulyan),
Luke Jolly and Karen Watson (Treviscoe) dropped just 2 ends in
defeating Rosemary Curnow, Patsy Wakeley, Chris Roberts & Brian
Wakeley (Ladock) 13-5. Pam Hamley, Terry Bray, Gillian Cawrse
& Peter Hamley (Lostwithiel) came from behind with consecutive
scores of 3 on the last two ends to defeat Melba Kitt, Margaret
Goodwin, Graham Reeves & Darren Woolner (Saltash) 11-7.
Bill Sharp, Lynette Golledge, Brenda Sleep & Max Burden
(Dobwalls) saw a 6-0
lead eroded by Marilyn Stewart, Arthur Hambley
(Withiel), Jacky Tyler & Keith Matthews (Blisland) who
led 7-6 going into the last end which the Dobwalls
team claimed two shots to win 8-7.
The final game of the round saw a score of 4 on
the fifth end for Lynne Davey (Liskeard), Betty Tem-
ple-Smith (Luxulyan), Martin Boraston (Dobwalls) and
Gary Davey (Liskeard) decisive as they defeated Elise
Daniell (Holmans), Sheila Hodge (Liskeard), Nicholas
Truscott (Luxulyan) and Peter Hore (Holmans) 9-8.
The semi-finals produced an epic between Max
Back row Gary Davey Martin Burden and Gary Davey's teams. Davey opened up
Boraston Front row Lynne Davey a 6-0 lead over the opening three ends before Burden
and Betty Temple-Smith hit back with scores of 3 and 4 over the subsequent
ends to move into the lead. Further scores of one, one and two put Burden in front 11-6 going
into the last end.
Liskeard were not done though claiming 5 on the final ends to force an extra end having
missed out on the win after a tight measure for sixth wood. Further drama was to come in the
extra end with end being killed before Davey's team claimed 6 to take victory. In the second
semi-final Peter Hamley opened up a 7-0 lead in the opening ends against Karen Watson and
moved the advantage onto 10 shots after 5 ends. Watson hit back in the second half of the
game with scores of two, three and two but this was not enough as Hamley claimed victory by
11shots to 7.
The final saw Davey open up a lead over the opening two
ends before Hambley hit back with three successive ends
to take the lead with the score at 4-3 after 5 ends. Davey
claimed scores of three on the sixth and eighth ends which
Hamley was unable to match with scores of two and one
on the seventh and ninth ends, thus Davey claimed the title
by 9 shots to 7.
