18 POTTERS TOURNAMENT
The opening bowls drive was won by Simon Briggs, Paula
McCallum, Sheila Oxley & John Hillier. They had 22 shots
in hand at one stage but lost the last four ends to finish up
plus 15, still good enough to win.
In the Singles quarter finals Joan Taylor was 3 - 7
down to Lonnie Fyson but took the last four ends to win 8
- 7. Maureen Fyson did better beating Tony Kent 8 - 5.
Verity Prior was in devastating for beating Sheila Hillier 10
- 1. John Paddy made it to the semi’s scraping past Simon
Briggs 7 - 6 after a sudden death extra end.
John had an easier time in his semi with an 8 - 3 win
over Verity Prior. The other semi was a humdinger of a
Singles finalist Joan Taylor match with Joan Taylor edging out Maureen Fyson 7 - 6.
and winner John Paddy The final was certainly an outstanding one as both
Joan Taylor & John Paddy finished at 7 shots each, with John taking a single on the sudden
death extra end to win 8 - 7.
The triples quarter finals started well
for Pam Fayers, Sheila & John Hillier with
a great 8 - 5 victory over the strong triple
of Lonnie Fyson, Barrie Newton & John
Page.
With only singles scored on every
end, Gloria Crawshaw, Brenda & Dennis
Crabtree beat Alan Paul, Simon Briggs &
Bob Clarridge by 6 shots to 2. Michael
Rice, Gill & Tony Kent had a stunning 14
- 1 win over Eve Collingridge, Jack Rutley
& & Hilary King-Jones.
The round was finished off with
Maureen Fyson, Sheila Page & Margaret Back row winners Gill Kent, Michael Rice &
Newton going one better than their hus- Tony Kent with finalists Maureen Fyson,
bands with a 14 - 5 result over John, Sheila Page & Margaret Newton
Richard & Mary Paddy. In the semis the
ladies then disposed of Gloria Crawshaw, Brenda & Dennis Crabtree 10 - 4. Michael Rice, Gill
& Tony Kent made it to the final with a convincing
12 - 2 result over Pam Fayers, Sheila & John Hillier.
The final turned out to be a somewhat one-sided af-
fair with Michael Gill & Tony winning 15 - 3.
The Pairs quarters had some comfortable
wins, 14 - 1 to Michael Rice & Michael Franks, 11 -
2 for Alan & Paula McCallum over favourites Gill &
Tony Kent. John & Sheila Page beat Derek & Sheila
Oxley 9 - 5 and Bob Cousins & Margaret Hastings
beat Neil Stoddart & Dennis Crabtree 9 - 3.
Bob & Margaret then beat Alan & Paula Mc-
Callum 9 - 7 in a hard fought semi. Michael Franks
& Michael Rice beat Sheila & John page to set up
an all Suffolk final with friends against friends.
Back row winners Michael Franks & A shock finish ensued with Bob & Margaret
Michael Rice with finalists Bob leading 7 - 5 going into the last end, Michael Rice &
Cousins & Margaret Hastings Michael Franks snatched a three for an 8 - 7 win.
