It had been an outstanding all-round team performance from Suffolk, reflected by the
significant margin of victory overall. The winning points total (94) is the greatest number 27
of points Suffolk have ever scored in this event and may well be the highest points total
ever. All of the team contributed to the win, with the points very evenly shared around the singles,
pairs and triples. Particular mentions should go to Andy Pooley and the triple of Steve Isles,
Adam Hubbard and Tom Runnacles, both winning all of the games.

The Essex Triples Competition was held at Braintree Leisure Centre with
45 Triples taking part, playing in nine groups of five with the winners and
the best seven runners up going through to the knockout stages. After
some close games in the first-round knockout stages the next result saw
                                   Sewards End 2 comfortably beating Lawford/Langham 13-2. A much
closer game saw Gt Hallingbury beat Paxmans 1 by 7-5. Even closer
Rayne 2 beat Dedham 1 by 8-7 after a sudden death extra end. in the
final game, Highwoods Black strolled home 9-1 against Birch Teys.
The Semi Finals produced two good games, The Rayne 2 team of Ken McDonnell/Max-
ine & Don Poulter got the better of the early exchanges against the Highwoods Black team
of Sue Miller/Brenda Kettle & Sheila Near and ran out comfortable winners by 9 - 1. The
other Semi Final was closer with the Sewards End 2 team of Amy Green/Helen Tucker &
Colin Lord starting the better against the Gt Hallingbury team of Alec & Enid Russell & Nigel
Bentley but the match was level after five ends with Sewards End 2 winning the last two
ends and the match by 10-6
This set up the prospect of a good Final and the supporters who stayed on were not
disappointed. Rayne took 2 shots on the first end and a further 3 shots on the second end
to establish a 5-0 lead. However, Sewards End found the mat and put pressure on Rayne to
take 2 shots on the next three ends with twice the jack being knocked off by Rayne. This
really set the match up for a close finish and it was Rayne who took two shots on the 6th end
to lead by one going into the last end. The match went down to the last bowl with Rayne
holding shot but Sewards End could not quite draw in and the match was won by Rayne 8-
6 Well done to all who took part, to Duncan & Alec for running the competition and Marie Val
& Anthea the Raffle. Rayne will now represent Essex in the 2019 Eastern Counties & National
               Champion of Champions.
