4 DODDINGTON SMBC
DODDINGTON SMBC
Doddington hosted its annual Hog Roast & Race Night,
which attracted a sell-out crowd filling the Village Hall
with over 120 racegoers. Eight races were scheduled
for punters to bet on their favourite horse. As the bets
were being placed the excitement was building around
the hall waiting for the races to commence.
As the races approached the finishing line the
crowd were on their feet cheering on their horse creat-
ing a fantastic atmosphere throughout the evening. The
special ninth and final race of the evening was an auc-
tion race where ticket holders had the chance to buy a
horse. One lucky winner walked away with £98.00 as
the winning owner.
This year the DSMBC Committee & Members
were all involved in selecting a local organisation and a
charity for the home of this year’s proceeds. Dodding-
ton Village Hall were the recipients of the community
donation and MAGPAS were once again the charity of the year. The committee are delighted
to report that £1076 was raised on the evening and both mentioned organisations will benefit
from these funds. This is the most this event has raised so far.
The club Chairman said ‘the support and feedback this year has been fantastic, this was
the best turnout we have ever had so on behalf of the club I would like to thank everyone who
contributed in any way either by attending the evening, donating a raffle prize etc. A special
thanks must go to our race sponsors who helped make the evening possible. Next year’s event
is already in the planning stage so watch this space ready to get your hands on the tickets for
Hog Roast & Race Night 2019.
THE CHLOE SHIELD
THE CHLOE SHIELD
Parkinson’s UK were this year’s chosen charity
for the Chloe Shield 2018. Forty-eight bowlers
from clubs across three counties competed in
the competition where teams of triples played
five games of eight ends in a bid to become
Chloe Shield champions.
After a number of close results, the table
fluctuated at the top for much of the day between
a number of teams with only shot difference sep-
arating them. Three teams had an exceptional
day winning all five games collecting the maxi-
mum of 10 points however in third place finished Doddington’s K Bemment & B Harrison who
teamed up with March BRAZA’s C Buck (+21 shots).
The runners up were Doddington’s L White & J Peters who teamed up with J Russell from
Sutton St Edmunds (+25 Shots) however this year’s champions were a team from Suffolk who
finished with an extraordinary shot difference (+45 shots). M Bailey, N Thomas & M Hastings
walked away as champions claiming the Chloe Shield 2018 winners title.
Refreshments were served throughout the day including several delicious extras made by
Doddington club members. The donation of raffle prizes and from those bowlers purchasing
tickets contributed to the money raised for the worthy cause. The Chloe Shield is played annu-
ally in memory of club member Joe Peters, wife and granddaughter. Several different charities
have benefited from the competition over the years and this year the club was proud to be sup-
porting Parkinson’s UK.
