             WATERGRASSHILL WIN St. VINCENTS TRIPLES
             St. Vincent’s Bowls Club staged the final session of their Annual Licensed Triples Com-
             petition, with 87-teams  doing battle for the top prizes in the C.B.S. Hall, Blarney Street.
                  Two Watergrasshill teams made it to the semi-finals and both made it through to an all Wa-
             tergrasshill final. Firstly, Paddy O’Regan, Shane O’Regan & Denis Crowley beat the Ballincollig
             G.A.A. team of Mary Boyde, Sheila O’Leary & Martin Sisk. Secondly, Josie O’Riordan, Eddie
             Mulholland & Seán O’Riordan beat Little Island Bridie Harty, Nora Murphy & Albert Ruxton. In
             the final, Josie O’Riordan, Eddie Mulholland & Seán O’Riordan emerged as victors over their
             clubmates.
                  At the conclusion of play St. Vincent’s Club Captain Lindsay Sherwin paid tribute to all
             those who supported this year’s competition and praised the efforts of club officers, committee,
             members, umpires and sponsors who played a big part in making their annual tournament a
             great success. Lindsay then presented to the winners, whilst the Rev. Fr. Jack Harris presented
             the Perpetual Trophy to Sean O’Riordan, the Skip of the winning team.

             DORSET ANNUAL                                               The 3rd Annual Charity Match was

                                                                         held at the Dorset Bowls Resort and

                                                                         the  day  before  in  South  Dorset.
                                                                         Only one team was flood bound and
                                                                         could  not  make  it  plus  two  other
                                                                         players  one  of  whom  was  also
                                                                         flooded out.
                                                                               36 teams from many counties
                                                                         took  part,  one  as  far  north  as
                                                                         Northampton.  A packed day for 144
                                                                         bowlers playing four games each on
                                                                         9 mats against randomly selected
                                                                         opponents.    Entry  fee  included  a
                                                                         cooked  meal  taken  in  the  resort
                                                                         clubhouse.
               The venue was once again kindly donated
               by John & Bev Champion, organised by
               Larry & Joyce House, supported by Sandy
               & Reg Whitear.
                     The missing players were made up
               from volunteers and a scratch team from
               John & Bev Champion plus two organisers,
               who had a busy day when not playing, or-
               ganising raffles etc.  This year’s charities
               were  the  Dorset  &  Somerset Air Ambu-
               lance and Poole Cancer Unit.  A total of
               £1,000 was raised.
                     At the end of a full days play the result
               was very close, the winning team West-
               bury, came from Wiltshire and finished with
               8 points & 41 shots, second were Hazel-               Winners Chris Willis, Graham Cox,
               bury  Bryan  from  Somerset  who  had  8           Bev Champion, Ann Hart, Gillian Willis.
               points & 38 shots, third were Maiden New-
               ton from Dorset, who had 6 points & 32 shots. A good days bowling for two worthy charities.
