            BALLINCOLLIG G.A.A. TRIUMPH
            BALLINCOLLIG G.A.A. TRIUMPH
The West Cork 3-Bowl Triples Tournament was hosted by Cox’s Hall,
Skibbereen & St Colum’s in the Bandon Grammar School Sports Hall
and was an event enjoyed by the 66-teams doing battle for the top
            prizes.
At the semi-final stage, Watergrasshil’s Paddy O’Regan, Denis
Crowley & Shane O’Regan beat the D.C.S. triple of Sheila O’Driscoll,
Mary Boland & John O’Driscoll. Completing the final line-up Mary
Boyde, Sheila O’Leary & Martin Sisk of the Ballincollig G.A.A. club
beat Midleton’s Michael Bevan, Malcolm Taylor & Tony O’Shea.
In the final, Ballincollig G.A.A. started off well and quickly got into their stride scoring seven
shots over the opening four ends. Watergrasshil then scored a single only to see Ballincollig
take a single of their own, giving them an 8 - 1 lead going into the last end. Theoretically Water-
grasshil could still win with 9 bowls to play but this was always highly unlikely. However, Water-
grasshill tried hard and did manage to score four shots to make their 8 - 5 defeat look
reasonable. Nevertheless, Mary Boyde, Sheila O’Leary & Martin Sisk ended as champions for
            Ballincollig G.A.A.
The umpires on duty for the final session were John Hill, Sam Jennings, Pierce O’Sullivan
& Gerty Stroker and the prizes were presented to the winners by Ken Kelly, Pierce O’Sullivan
            and Georgina Watters.

for the John O’Callaghan Memorial Trophy was held in the local Community Hall. The event
was once again a great success and attracted an entry of 87-teams from the City/County clubs
            over a wide area.
In the semi-finals, Crosshaven’s Keith, Conor & Con Middleton beat the B.E.D.A. team of

            Tim Murphy.
In the final, Crosshaven struck first with a two on the opening end, only for Grange/Frank-
field to strike back with a three. A single to Crosshaven levelled the score and on the next end
Crosshaven scored a stunning five for an 8 - 3 lead. Two singles to Grange/Frankfield closed
the gap but once again Crosshaven upped their game with successive two’s for a 12 - 5 lead.
A single to Grange/Frankfield ended the match with Crosshaven’s Keith, Conor & Con Middleton
ending as 12 - 6 winners over Phyllis Long, John Swanick & John Long.

the S.M.A. Hall, Wilton. The holders, Crosshaven, faced Mitchelstown in the final. The format
was as in previous rounds consisting of two sessions with the Singles and Triples games in the
