32 Cerne Abbas Charity Competitions
Cerne Abbas SMBC held
its two annual charity com-
petitions, the ‘Six of the
Best’ and the Cerne Open
Triples, on consecutive
days over a weekend.
This year’s nominated
charities were Diabetes UK
and Weldmar, a local can-
cer charity. A magnificent
total of over £1600 was
raised for these two worthy
causes from a popular

Terry Batt, Diane Reece & Graham Davies raffles, food sales and
competition entry fees.
The club would like to
thank all those who con-
tributed so generously,
participated and assisted.
“Six of the Best”
Competition
This year’s six teams
comprised of Hazelbury
Bryan and Carey from
Dorset, Baltonsborough
and three-time winners
Templecombe from Som-
erset, the holders, Won-
ford, from Devon and a
very strong Welsh team, Runners-up Andrew Pinkawa, Matthew Chapman,
Skewen near Swansea. Celia Jeans, Hazel Berry, Chris Jeans & Alan Berry
The unusual competition format
comprises three rounds of singles,
pairs and triples, the top two teams
qualifying for the final. Luke Haddon
of Skewen scored maximum points
to win the prize for the Best Singles
player. Skewen also won Best Pairs,
but Wonford were the Best Triple.
Skewen were the leading quali-
fiers for the final with 15 points. Tem-
plecombe, once again Blackmore
Vale League Division 1 Champions,
also qualified with 11 points, ahead
of last year’s winners, Wonford, and
Open Triples winners Hadspen, Nigel and
Steve Wheaton and Carole Wyatt. Carey both on 8 points.
