ccording to Issey Miyake, “simplicity is always beautiful” a
Aphilosophy that is undoubtedly at the heart of all of his products.

By far, Miyake is the most well known Japanese designer in the world, his men’s and women’s
clothing collections are defined as slim, architecturally-inspired designs with subtle details. Not
surprisingly, these attributes carry over into his fragrances, which are bottled in the same fashion.
Debuted in 1994, Miyake’s first scent L’Eau d’Issey is a light, aquatic floral that harmonizes
with the designer’s pared-down aesthetics, Miyake- intrigued by the idea of creating a fragrance
out of a pure and odorless substance-used water’s physical and figurative qualities to create the
refreshing fragrance. Two years later, the men’s version was unveiled. A variation on the original
theme, L’Eau d’Issey pour homme comes from the idea of force and order, with a strong and
bubbling palate that’s agile and invigorating- just like water.
The visionary designer is constantly pushing fashion boundaries, mixing his Asian tradition with
European classicism and American functionality. Yet among all the fashion hype, Miyake still
considers fragrance to be the ultimate accessory-and he’s magnificent at creating those as well.
