Coordinated and convened quarterly meetings for the 6
statewide substantive law task forces to discuss common issues
faced and training needs. Each Task Force will host a practice
area specific training at the 2019 LA Justice Community
Conference.
o Investigate IFP issues
Surveyed the legal providers regarding common issues faced
with misapplication of IFP statutes and used research to
substantiate LSLI request to examine.
Partner with Louisiana Bar Foundation to launch Legal Navigator
Program.
o Collaborated with Louisiana Bar Foundation to submit a Justice
For All grant application. If received, the funding will support the
assessment of civil legal aid and social services resources in
Louisiana. This assessment will later be used in developing the
LBF’s Legal Navigator.
o Meeting of legal and non-legal service providers planned for
LJCC to network and gather information on services provided.
■ The State Bar fosters development in civil legal aid.
Continue to facilitate ATJ Pro Bono Subcommittee;
Two-hour pro bono track planned for pro bono providers at 2019
LJCC.
Continue to develop Volunteer Attorney Outreach;
o Coordinate annual Lawyers in Libraries
Developed and launched new website to match attorneys across
the state with events at 93+ library branches.
o Administer Free Legal Answers Program
o Certified as Provider for “CLE for Pro Bono”
Certification allows for LSBA program volunteers to obtain CLE
credit for volunteer work
o Create Pro Bono CLE template to foster a culture of PB
representation
o Facilitate education on volunteer portal of statewide case mgt
system
Education on this portal which creates efficiencies for volunteers
will be part of the Pro Bono track at the LJCC.
o Coordinate ATJ Distinguished Pro Bono Fellowship Program
o Participate in National Celebrate Pro Bono Week
Coordination of Lawyers in Libraries events statewide in
conjunction with National Celebrate Pro Bono Week.
