Leah Hipple McKay Award
The recipient of the LSBA Leah Hipple McKay Award for Outstanding Volunteerism is selected
annually from among the LSBA Citizen Lawyer Award recipients. It is awarded by the Association
at the LSBA Annual meeting.
The Louisiana State Bar Association's (LSBA) Leah Hipple McKay Memorial Award for
Outstanding Volunteerism is the premier award of the LSBA's Citizen Lawyer Awards program.
The award is named in honor of the late Leah Hipple McKay, a member of the LSBA and a deeply
committed volunteer. The award is presented to a Louisiana lawyer or judge who has made
significant long-term volunteer contributions. The Board of Governors created this award in honor
of Leah's considerable civic involvement and invaluable service provided to the LSBA during her
husband Michael W. McKay's 2004-05 presidency.
The Outreach Committee’s Awards Subcommittee met on January 17, 2020. The Outreach
Committee approved the award recommendations on March 6, 2020. The LSBA Board of
Governors will consider the recommendations on August 29, 2020.
It will be awarded at the LSBA Midyear Meeting on January 23, 2021 due to the coronavirus
pandemic.
Member Benefits
The Department has assumed the role of prescreening member benefit offers and making
recommendations to the Board of Governors regarding whether the LSBA should offer the benefits
to members. The Department will evaluate all member benefits offered by the LSBA to access
members’ usage and satisfaction. The Department also will explore more benefit offers that will
assist members that have more specialized needs.
The current Member Benefit publication is made available at LSBA programs and events.
