Re: Committee on Diversity in the Legal Profession
Awards Recommendations
The LSBA Committee on Diversity in the Legal Profession approved the
recommendations listed below under “Awards Background” on November
13, 2015. The Board of Governors approved the recommendations for the
Louisiana State Bar Association Chief Justice Bernette Joshua Johnson
Trailblazer Award and Louisiana State Bar Association Guardian of
Diversity Award on January 15, 2016.
Awards Subcommittee Recommendations:
The Awards subcommittee met on March 18, 2020 and March 25, 2020. The
Diversity Committee approved the recommendations on April 24, 2020.
Louisiana State Bar Association Chief Justice Bernette Joshua Johnson
Trailblazer Award recommendation:
That the Chief Justice Bernette Joshua Johnson Trailblazer Award be renamed
the Honorable Bernette Joshua Johnson Trailblazer Award.
Lo uisiana State Bar Association’s Guardian of Diversity Award
recommendation:
The Guardian of Diversity Award criteria language be updated to reflect the
ability of law-related programs to be nominated for the award.
The Guardian of Diversity Award criteria language be updated to reflect that
only groups, not individuals, are eligible for the award.
