Major Philippine Art Forms
1. ARCHITECTURE - the art and technique of designing and building, as distinguished from
the skills associated with construction. The practice of architecture is employed to fulfill
both practical and expressive requirements, and thus it serves both utilitarian and aesthetic
ends..
2. DANCE - is a performing art form consisting of purposefully selected sequences of human
movement. This movement has aesthetic and symbolic value, and is acknowledged
as dance by performers and observers within a particular culture.
3. FILM - a technological translation of theater, special effects are utilized to enhance
storytelling. It is the most advanced form of art so far created by man. It not only involves

4. MUSIC - art concerned with combining vocal or instrumental sounds for beauty of form or
emotional expression, usually according to cultural standards of rhythm, melody, and, in
most Western music, harmony. Both the simple folk song and the complex electronic
composition belong to the same activity.
5. LITERATURE - written works (such as poems, plays, and novels) that are considered to be
very good and to have lasting importance. This form of art is in through language of
combined that creates meaning and experience.
6. THEATRE - or theater is a collaborative form of performing art that uses live performers,
usually actors or actresses, to present the experience of a real or imagined event before a
live audience in a specific place, often a stage. The performers may communicate this
experience to the audience through combinations of gesture, speech, song, music, and
dance.
7. VISUAL ARTS - The visual arts are art forms such as painting, drawing, printmaking,
sculpture, ceramics, photography, video, filmmaking, design, crafts, and architecture.
Many artistic disciplines such as performing arts, conceptual art, and textile arts also
involve aspects of visual arts as well as arts of other types.
