HANDHELD RADIOS
PRC6809, Handheld Radio Maritime Version, Type 1 Controlled Cryptographic Item (CCI),
AN/PRC-148(V)3(C), NSN 5820-01-591-2516 Immersible in salt water at a depth of 20 meters for two
hours, standard features are SINCGARS, HAVEQUICK Electronic Counter-Counter Measures (ECCM)
and ANDVT, see below for other features.
AVAILABLE JEM WAVEFORMS
SINCGARS (Single Channel Ground and Airborne Radio System), Frequency Hopping Electronic Coun-
ter-Counter Measures (ECCM) waveform, in accordance with MIL-STD-188-241-1/-2 Operating frequency
range 30 to 88MHz.
HAVEQUICK I/II Frequency Hopping ECCM waveform, in accordance with MIL-STD-188-220 Operating
frequency range of 225 to 400MHz, (HAVEQUICK is not an abbreviation)
ANDVT waveform, encrypted Advanced Narrow-band Digital Voice Terminal (ANDVT) in accordance with
MIL-STD-188. 5 kHz bandwidth, maximum 2400 baud rate, LPC-10 vocoder is default. The Mixed Excitation
Linear Predictive (MELP) vocoder is available as an option. Extra priced, optional waveforms are also avail-
able for the JEM,
Retransmission, requires two radios connected together using a Retransmission Cable and, when appro-
priate, the lters from the Expedient Retransmission Kit. Re-transmission provides a frequency translation
/ repeater function.
Project 25 waveform, supports digital AES (Type 2 Advanced Encryption System)
SINCGARS FH2, new SINCGARS frequency hopping methodology in accordance with MIL-STD-188-241.
MELP, Mixed Excitation Linear Predictive 2400bps vocoder, in accordance with STANAG 4591 /
MIL-STD-3005. Used in ANDVT radio operating mode to provide better audio quality than the LPC-10
vocoder.
Integrated Waveform (IW), IW is the DAMA successor waveform for multi-channel satellite communica-
tion. Waveform in accordance with MIL-STD-188-181C (5kHz and 25kHz UHF SatCom), MIL-STD-188-182B
(5kHz and 25kHz demand assigned UHF SatCom) and MIL-STD-188-183B (5kHz and 25kHz multiple access
UHF SatCom). Separate JEM IW Quick Reference Guide, PN 3400905-3, is available.
SatCom, waveform in accordance with MIL-STD-188-181C (5 kHz and 25 kHz UHF single channel SatCom).
Included as part of the IW feature but also available separately.
Over The Air Cloning (OTAC), when the mode is enabled on multiple radios and the radios are within 10ft
proximity of each, channel assignments, frequencies and modes are transferred from one radio to anoth-
er.
