that it does not need to accommodate a disabled
employee, but if a suitable position existed and was
unfilled, the employer might be required to consider
transferring the employee to that role if he or she was
otherwise qualified for it.
Remember too that what is reasonable will
continue to change as technology changes. For example,
today there are many more options to allow people with
sight and hearing disabilities to perform the functions of
their jobs than there were twenty years ago. Similarly,
accommodations that may be unreasonable today may
become reasonable, and therefore required, as technology
evolves.
B. Perceived Disability Discrimination
What many people do not know is that the law also
prohibits discrimination based on “perceived disability.”
