2.1.6. The habits and practices I would adopt as a mathematical teacher is to involve

learners more and encourage participation instead of spoon-feeding learners. I would

encourage more group activities, worksheets and allow learners to do work on the
chalkboard or smartboard instead me doing it for them.

1.2 MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY AND CONTROVERSIAL ISSUES IN
              MATHEMATICS

2.2.1. I believe a teacher is first and for most a game changer and an agent of change.
Teachers should be inclusive, supportive, a mentor and a parent to learners. For me to

be a good teacher I need to always have a positive mindset and always have faith of good

              outcomes for the future.

A teacher is like a farmer planting a seed on the ground and watering the plant allowing

it to grow in proper conditions to its full potential. As a teacher I come to a class full of
children excited and willing to learn. A teacher comes in to plant seeds of content

knowledge and pedagogical content knowledge. I need to groom learners to their full

potential making sure I include all learner diversity in the classroom. My calling is to do
justice by my learners and serve diligently with pride and honor.

As a teacher I am aware that learners come to class with their own prior knowledge from
experience and environment. I have to accommodate and always take into account the

learner's prior knowledge and incorporate it into my lessons in order for them to relate my

lessons to real life situations. I understand past experiences may inform learner's way of
learning in class and my behavior as well may inform the way they learn.

2.2.2. The controversial issue surrounding mathematics is that mathematics is fun,
however many see mathematics as challenging and difficult. Some may say mathematics

is boring and there is no fun in it. This is a very controversial issue in mathematics and

there is a huge gap between the fact that mathematics is fun and hard. With mathematics
lovers they consider the issue of it being hard as a challenge and it is the very challenging

part that bring excitement to them.

2.2.3. Learners learn in different ways and have different learning abilities. It is my

responsibility as a teacher to plan my lessons appropriately including different teaching
