Understanding the Divine Secrets
Three Generals of Great Sacrifice in the Bible
1. Abraham the Father of Faith
Abraham offered sacrifices to God matching the desires of his life. Abraham had a child-bearing complication that needed divine intervention and attention. However, the answer came through the life of sacrifice, dedication and prayer he demonstrated before God. Hear this! Genesis 13:3-4 says:
And he went on his journey from the South as far as Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai, to the place of the altar which he had made there at first. And there Abram called on the name of the Lord.
In the Old Testament, the foundational reason for altars was to offer burnt sacrifice to God. However, the state of your heart was equally important before God. If you offered your sacrifice contrary to your heart God would not receive it. Until your heart is involved, your sacrifice to God remains vainglorious.
