Community Engagement
The Hudson City School District Board of Education and Superintendent place a high priority on community input and
feedback. The Hudson community has traditionally placed a high-value in supporting the learning and wellness needs of
our children. By engaging students, staff, and the community, listening to feedback, and making adjustments to facility
plans, can best meet the learning needs of our children. The Hudson City School District partnered with The Impact
Group to assist in presenting the Comprehensive Plan to the Community and to gather their valuable feedback.
The Impact Group, together with Phil Herman, Superintendent, facilitated nineteen Focus Groups, which approximately
125 people attended. Focus group attendees included members of clubs and organizations such as Rotary, Kiwanis,
community foundations, as well as school district staff, students, community leaders, and citizens. During the focus
groups, a general overview of the facility planning process and an explanation of three options under consideration
(Silver, White, Blue) were presented.
An on-line survey was also made available on the District website as an additional method of gathering community
feedback.
Themes from the focus groups and survey included:
• The 1927 portion of Hudson Middle School is important to some members of the community, and they would like it
preserved.
• The site plans need to include more detail regarding parking, bus flow, and student walkways.
• Many community members do not support the concept of a 5, 6, 7, 8 middle school.
• More information regarding Student-Centered Learning is desired.
• Additional communication methods between District and community members are desired.
• Time was requested to develop a more detailed Master Facility Plan prior to putting a final plan forward.
