        • The 1st ever Phoenix Awards recognized three clubs which, at the beginning of our Rotary year, were considering
calling it quits but have now risen from the ashes. Congratulations to Valley West, Blanding and Sandy Rotary
Clubs. It has taken a lot of hard work, but you are, once again, alive and well and doing good in the world!
        • Although membership took a steep dive during the worldwide pandemic, we finished the year with a net loss of only
21, and while the loss of any Rotarian hurts, we are in our best membership position in the past five years.
        • 29 of Utah’s 45 clubs earned the Rotary Citation for achieving at least 13 of RI’s 25 goals for clubs.

        • Four new satellite clubs were organized: Connecting Generations (a satellite club to Millcreek Rotary); Southern
Utah Veterans (a satellite club to Dixie Sunrise … only the 3rd veterans cause-based Rotary clubs in the U. S.); soon-
to-charter Washington City (satellite club to St. George RC); and, in process, Farmington (a satellite club to the
            Centerville-Farmington club).

        • A substantial jump in the number of new donors to The Rotary Foundation, including 13 major donors this year and
two families (Kelly and Penny Atkinson family and the Mike Deputy family) who each gave at least $250,000 to District Governor Letter District 5420 Service Impact Report
become members of RI’s Arch Klumph Society.
Every district governor for the past decade has hoped his/her term would be THE year when wild polio would - finally
and forever – be eradicated from the earth! This year, we are the closest we have ever been! In August 2020, the entire
continent of Africa was officially declared “wild polio free” and for the 21 weeks from New Years Day 2021 to the end of
RY2020-21, there have been NO NEW CASES ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD!

Still, polio-weary Rotarians recognize the fight against polio isn’t over ‘til it’s over so district leaders were delighted to
receive another gift of $1 million from Latter-day Saints Charities for Polio Plus which will be matched 2-to-1 by the Bill
and Melinda Gates to a total of $3 million … so the work can continue.
It has been an amazing year – and there is much more we could add to our list - despite everything we thought was
impeding our success. Thanks to everyone for your dedication, commitment, enthusiasm, perseverance, creativity, grit,
resolve, ingenuity, and for “growing Rotary” against all odds. As this 4th annual Service Impact Report illustrates, it has
been an incredible team effort and we sincerely thank you for your support and hard work. I am grateful beyond works for
the honor to serve as Governor of Utah Rotary District 5420.

        So, take that, COVID!!!

SPECIAL THANKS TO RY2020-21 ASSISTANT GOVERNORS

No District Governor serves alone. All DG’s know their success can be attributed, to a great degree, to knowing s/he
has the support of many wonderful Rotarians behind the scenes who say “yes” when asked to serve, respond to frequent
requests to follow-up with clubs to which they are assigned, and in our infamous COVID year, sit through seemingly
endless Zoom calls, carry the DG’s messages, find answers for clubs and fulfill any and all “other duties as assigned.”

Thank you to the following 13 Assistant Governors for your hard work, dedication and support in, perhaps, the most
