Service Impact Report

District 5420

Daniel Webster defines the word “vibrant” as “characterized by energy and/or activity. Vivacious, animated, alive” which
certainly describes the RY2020-21 recipient of Utah Rotary District 5420’s Large Club of the Year.

The Rotary Club of Dixie Sunrise has always believed in, as well as exemplified, “fun” as a measure of a strong Rotary
club. But they have also excelled in “service above self” with many, regular “bigger, better, bolder projects which change
lives.” They added 7 new members during the pandemic and were among the first few clubs to earn this year’s Rotary
Citation. They focus both time and energy on making sure every member understands the importance of giving to the
Rotary Foundation by encouraging them to become Rotarians-in-the-full-sense of the word as EREY members as each
works toward a Paul Harris Fellow. This club sponsors a community-based Interact club and is sponsoring one of two
Large Club of the Year
new satellite clubs in Washington County – the Southern Utah Veterans Rotary Club, one of only 3 veterans cause-based
Rotary clubs in the United States. Among their 71 members, nearly 100% have a MyRotary account, a dozen earned a
PHF this year, and several are new members of the Paul Harris Society.
Their first in-person meeting, post-pandemic, included a creative and fun event celebrating Dr. Suess’s 117th birthday,
with several members in costume. During this program they also inducted a new member; presented 2 certificates of
completion of 12 hours of Rotary Leadership Institute; awarded 5 PHF awards; introduced their club’s 1st major donor;
and announced the club’s new Little Lending Library literacy program which as each are assembled are stocked with
books for both children and adults and placed strategically around the community.
Dixie Sunrise Rotary is “service above self on steroids.” Congratulations, President Suzanne Leonelli for her hard work in
a challenging year and to all members of Utah Rotary District 5420’s Large Club of the Year!!!
