UTAH ROTARY SMALL CLUB OF THE YEAR 9
HURRICANE VALLEY
The Rotary Club of Hurricane Valley has been selected as Utah Rotary Small Club of the Year. This Southern Utah club Small Club of the Year District 5420 Service Impact Report
with a current membership of just 27 is “a little Rotary club which could” … and did, despite the challenges of RY2020-
21. Throughout most of the COVID year, Hurricane Valley Rotary Club led every club in the district in membership
growth with a net increase of 9 as of June 30.
When other clubs around the world were struggling to move forward in meaningful ways, Hurricane Valley Rotary Club
was one of the first five clubs in the district to qualify for the Rotary Citation by completing at least 13 of this year’s 25
goals set by Rotary International. They support an historically thriving Interact Club at Hurricane High School; saw an
increase in foundation giving and held their 30th annual Hurricane Rotary Easter Car Show – their biggest one yet -
with 331 entries, more than 9000 attendees and $40,000 funds raised.
This year’s car show funds are now being distributed to non-profit organizations in the community, including Hurricane’s
Boy Scout troop, which has more than 30 scouts, including 8 who have achieved the rank of Eagle. The Hurricane High
School mountain biking team, with a membership of more than 80 received funding; and an additional donation to the
high school of $5,000 will provide scholarships for seniors and other qualified students.
Other funds went to Hurricane City for new backstops and baseball fields; to Switchpoint to help those in need; Tans
Treats to provide for food-insecure students on weekends; the Hurricane Food Bank and Washington County Search and
Rescue.
Internationally, Hurricane Valley Rotary Club supports the operation of the Sunshine Home in Haiti, a home for 11
orphan children and a family which takes care of them helped operate it for the last 16 months.
Congratulations to President Wil DuCrest for his hard work and to all members of RY2020-21 Small Club of the Year
for their outstanding efforts in a very challenging year.
