12 NATIVE AMERICAN INITIATIVE
In RY2020-21, Utah Rotary District 5420 worked in partnership with other organizations / entities to create a
collaborative and coordinated multi-year, multi-club effort to “champion” / provide assistance to tribes within the
boundaries of our state. Such help includes but was not limited to food, water and sanitation, electricity, community
development and “other” help as resources and skills permit.
The Native American Tribes within Utah’s borders are:
• Northwestern Band of Shoshobi Nation of Utah (Washakie)
• Paiute Indian Tribe of Utah

• Cedar City Band of Paiutes
• Kanosh Band of Paiutes
• Koosharem Band of Paiutes
• Indian Peaks Band of Paiutes
• Shivwits Band of Paiutes
District 5420
• Skull Valley Band of Goshute Indians of Utah
• Ute Indian Tribe of the Uintah and Ouray Reservation, Utah
• Navajo – North Western area of Reservation
• Hopi – located within the Western portion of the Navajo Reservation
During the COVID-19 pandemic, tribal communities in some areas of the district, were disproportionately affected due
to families living in close proximity, often without clean running water and electricity, but there are other health and
welfare issues in each of these tribes. Throughout RY2020-21, this project has, and will continue to address pressing
needs, in nearly all 7 of Rotary’s Areas of Focus in most or all of the identified tribes.
