DISTRICT GOVERNOR-NOMINEE
Jose Velasco, District Governor Nominee (RY2022-23) and Rotarian of the Year (RY2019-20)
brought his heart for volunteering to Rotary in 2010 when he joined the Hispano Latino Club. In
2011, he transferred his membership to the Midvale Rotary Club (now known as Midvalley
Rotary) to be closer to his office and where he served two years as club president in RY2015-17.
On a district level, he served as a Positive Peace Rotary mentor and coach as part of a U.S.-
Colombia Global Grant; chaired the Pan-American Rotaract conference (postponed this year due
to COVID), and for the last year served as Assistant Governor in Utah Rotary’s Area 6 providing Bios District 5420 Service Impact Report
support to Midvalley, Glendale, Valley West, West Jordan and to the Utah eClub.
A native son of Guadalajara, MX, Jose has a degree in Health and Safety, served as a trainer in Industrial Safety and
Accident Prevention in the workplace. After relocating to the United States in 1986, Jose worked more than 30 years
in retail business management and developed his entrepreneurial experience managing single and multiple locations
in several Western States. In 2012, he was part of the management team for Easter Seals-Goodwill Northern Rocky
Mountain Retail Division, based in Utah.
While living in Mexico, his accomplishments included earning a Nursing Certificate, founding the first Urban Rescue
Squad and co-founding the first School of Paramedics with federal certification.
He is currently licensed in the State of Utah as a realtor with IMPower Real Estate. In his spare time, the Rotarian of
the Year and DGN enjoys being outdoors, whether its camping, fishing, hiking, or golfing and shares a passion for other
hobbies with his wife Martha (D5420’s Rotaract Chair) and his daughter Stephanie (District Rotaract Representative)
and son Andrew, a marketing specialist.
DISTRICT GOVERNOR NEXT-IN-LINE
District Governor Next (aka Nominee-designate) John Redd has a 20-year history as a member
of Rotary, joining Club 24 (RC of Salt Lake City) in 2001, recognizing the importance of being
involved in the community while trying to build his practice as a recreational therapist. A graduate
of Southern Utah University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in
recreational therapy from Indiana University, he sought out Rotary for his “service above self”
because his father had been a Rotarian. As a member of the Salt Lake Club, the future Utah
District Governor (RY2023-24) served on the membership committee, as chair of the Salt Lake
Rotary Foundation’s Investment Committee and as the Youth Committee chair for a number of
years during which he had great experiences with the youth of Salt Lake City.
After 12 years in downtown SLC, John moved his office to Centerville and transferred his Rotary membership to the
Bountiful Club where he has served on the membership committee, as club president and chaired the club’s foundation.
Currently he serves as co-chair of Bountiful Rotary’s Coats for Kids Car Show, a fantastic project which has raised funds
to provide thousands of kids with warm winter clothing.
John met his wife, Nicole while working on his undergraduate degree. They were married in 1995. After schooling
and working as a therapist for a while, he became acquainted with an Edward Jones financial advisor and decided after
learning about the company, “this is something I need to do” and changed careers in September 2001.
The Redds have four children: Chase (20), John (deceased), Katri (16), and Olivia (12) and together they enjoy traveling,
camping, hiking and overlanding.
States the soon-to-be DG, “I am grateful for lessons learned from my parents, for the opportunity to work for Edward
Jones which has given me a career where I can help families and make a difference. I am also proud to be a Rotarian and
to serve with each of you … and I am humbled to be your future District Governor.”
