Hosey Clinics now offer new Cartiva method to correct arthritic joint pain in the big toe
Your toes' joints are uniquely designed for movement — especially the big toe,

Arthritis sufferers often experience pain in their toe joints which if not

“The physicians at Hosey Foot and Ankle Centers now can treat this condition with a new joint implant called Cartiva that eliminates joint pain in the toe without sacrificing your foot’s natural movement ability,” says Dr. Thomas Hosey. “Unlike fusion, which locks the joint in place, Cartiva allows your joint to move how it's supposed to, so you retain your mobility and range of motion.”
The implant is composed of a durable, slippery organic polymer that functions similarly to natural cartilage. It has been shown to successfully treat painful arthritis in the joint of
the big toe. This arthritis involves the wearing down of the cartilage tissue in the big toe joint.
With Cartiva,
your foot will be
weight bearing
immediately
following
surgery. You
should begin exercises
immediately that move your joint. “Our physicians will instruct you in the exercises to undertake in order to regain movement of your toe,” Dr. Hosey says. “Fusion, on the other hand, normally takes 6 weeks before your foot will be weight bearing.”
Cartiva surgery generally only takes between 25 and 35 minutes.
