2018 AHAFO DIGEST

GM’s 2018 End of Year Message

It has been a challenging year but we have been able to brave it all and still recorded appreciable success
through our collective hard work and resilience. This year, Ahafo has proven that we are a family that sup-
ports each other in the good and the challenging times. Thank you for that and thank you also for the sup-
port you have given the Site Leadership Team.

        Safety
April 7 will remain an unforgettable page in our history. While our thoughts will forever be with our departed
colleagues and their families, we must learn our lessons by continuing to work towards a safer work place.
After the AME incident, we were able to attain a record Zero Harm run of 222 days till mid-November. How-
ever, on the whole, we recorded 4 injuries and 17 Serious Potential Events (SPEs).

In spite of our challenges, we put up a creditable performance during this year’s National Mine Safety Com-
petition. We were adjudged the Best Improved Mine based on Occupational Injury Performance, Runner up-
Best Mine based on Accidents Statistics and 2nd runner up for the Best Safe Mine based on Mine Safety,
Health and Environmental Audit. We were also audited by a global Fatality Risk Management audit team
and some findings and learnings came out of this audit. Ahafo was re-certified for the International Cyanide
Management Code as well as ISO 14001:2015. Going into next year, we must renew our focus on working
safely by speaking up, following the right procedures and ensuring Critical Controls are in place while carry-
        ing out quality verifications.

        Delivering the business plan
Our Year -to -Date gold production was 3% lower than budget due to lower open pit production attributable
to lower equipment productivity, lower feed grade, the impact of the AME fatalities and contractor
employees’ demonstration. We were able to achieve commercial production for Subika Underground as
planned and the Mill Expansion project is also progressing well. Next year, Subika Underground will be
entering into a full year production phase and by the second half of next year, the Mill Expansion Project
would have also achieved commercial production. These two milestones have been factored into our
719, 000 ounces production target for next year. This is an exciting opportunity as well as a challenge for
us; but I trust in our collective capability and commitment to achieve our target. Our ability to deliver on our
commitment will earn us the resources to progress our growth projects.

        Growth
Beside the Mill Expansion Project which is about 51% complete, we are progressing steadily on the Ahafo
North Project. Next year is a significant phase in the life of the project as we work towards obtaining an Envi-
        ronmental Permit.

        Sustainability
Sustainability remains a core value to our business. Next year, there will be a review of our Ahafo Social
Responsibility Agreement by all stakeholders to ensure that we maximize the value we create for our host
communities. We also need to build our relationship with our communities to ensure a stable environment
for the creation of value to all stakeholders.

        In General
I want to thank you all sincerely for your support and contributions during the year. I look forward to working
        together for
a safer and rewarding 2019. On behalf of management, I wish you and your families compliments of the
        holiday season.

        Stay safe!
